Who we are

Since its inception in 2005, FilmFix has been owned and operated by Laura and Nathaniel Courtens. Our FilmFix.com is located in Ojai, CA (USA.) Our FilmFix.ch is in Switzerland and has been operated by Marco Hobi since 2006.

We are committed to respecting the rights of our customers, visitors, and other users, such as our partnering affiliates, resellers, bloggers, and anyone else using our website. Here is our Website Privacy Policy, our Cookie Policy, and More about Our Blog.

Laura and Nathaniel Courtens operate and control the following domain names and websites: www.filmfix.com, www.filmfix.net, www.filmfix.ch, www.filmfix.eu, and www.filmfix.be.

We do not use a web hosting service, so there is no web hosting company or a web programmer/designer, in the middle. Here is more info on Web Data Encryption, Web Data Storage, Server, Software, and Code.

Website Privacy Policy

This website privacy policy informs you about our use of the data we collect. It also informs you about our strict commitment to fair practices and the safeguarding of such data. This disclosure explains how your privacy is fully guarded from the moment you first visit our website all the way through to completion of an order. We provide additional pertinent information about orders in our Terms of Service.

This is how we protect your privacy; the data we collect about you; and how such data is used. Please note: You will always retain full ownership of any material we transfer for you. Please be aware that some film transfer companies retain copyright of your personal footage for use as they choose. They may even sell it. That detail might only appear in their fine-print. We caution you. For reference, we have a special section on Web Data and Media Ownership.

This Website Privacy Policy is only applicable to this website and not to any other website which you may be able to access from this website.

How we protect your privacy

We do not share or sell any of your personal data. We will personally ask for your written permission before sharing any of your words to us, images, or transferred materials. Thus, for any information we share on our website, we have explicit authorization from our customer.

Web Data Encryption

All forms and website content which contains private data is transmitted over a secure internet connection. Encryption certificates are provided and verified by "Let's Encrypt". Let's Encrypt is an automated and open Certificate Authority trusted by Cisco, Facebook, and Verizon, to name a few. Certificates get renewed on a 30-day rotating basis.

Web Data Storage

We store all data in three separate databases. The first database stores orders and website content, without the blog. The second is dedicated to our blog. The third database stores all the website traffic analytic data.

If you provide your credit card information to us for payment, your credit card information is further processed by first being anonymized. In addition, it is held only until payment is processed. Payments are manually processed and payment information data is manually deleted directly after each payment is completed.

Server, Software, and Code

The website server operating system is Ubuntu, which runs a copy of VirtualBox. VirtualBox hosts a guest instance of Windows 10 Pro operating system running IIS, Apache 2.4, hMailServer, Simple DNS Plus, and MariaDB. Apache processes all internet requests and handles all SSL connections. Apache also serves as proxy server to redirect requests to IIS. Our web applications are using IIS and Apache. Code languages used are ASP, JS and PHP. The core website code is primarily written in ASP and is proprietary code. Our blog and the website traffic analytics code is open-source code. To administer our blog we use WordPress and for website traffic analytics - Matomo. Ubuntu, VirtualBox, Apache, MariaDB, Matomo, and WordPress are open-source code. All code and databases used to make the website applications function are locally hosted by us. There is no outside web host, cloud, or other web programmer involved. Our web server has a firewall, and our internal network is behind a firewall.

This site uses IP2Location LITE data available from http://www.ip2location.com.

We have the following plugins activated in WordPress: "ACF to REST API", "Add From Server", "Advanced Custom Fields", "Custom Post Type UI", "Default Startup Folder for Real Media Library", "Folders", "Head, Footer and Post Injections", "MediaElement.js - HTML5 Audio and Video", "Multiple Domain", "Physical Custom Upload Dir for Real Media Library", "Matomo", "Simple Google reCAPTCHA", "The SEO Framework", "TJ Custom CSS", "Transposh Translation Filter", "Tuxedo Big File Uploads", "WordPress Importer", "WP Mail SMTP", "WP Real Media Library", "WP REST API", and "WP REST Filter". WordPress code and plugins are activated only by use of our Blog. Our Blog can be found at: https://www.filmfix.net/blog/.

The data we collect about you

Collection of Order Data

The data collected during the full course of an order is: your order's particulars and your contact and payment information. This data is kept for reasons of order tracking, bookkeeping, and to preserve website functionality. As the final step of an order you will be able to write a customer testimonial, if you wish. We then ask, via email, your authorization for use of the personal identification you prefer. Most customers allow us use of their first and last name, city and state. To note - we handle most of our customer communication via email.

Collection of Blog Data

If you decide to share anything on our blog, please be advised of our blog rules and our Web Data and Media ownership.

Collection of Web-Traffic Data

Matomo allows for tracking of visits to our FilmFix site. It shows us which type of device is used, which browser type, the IP address, the date and time of visit, and the like. This data is kept indefinitely to better understand trends over time.

To further protect your privacy, we disabled web analytics data collection of our web mail inquiry pages and order related pages. This prevents sensitive data from getting collected through our web analytics database.

  • do research and analysis to maintain, protect, develop and improve our services
  • participate in our online communities, including our social media pages and blogs
  • store your preferences for future interactions and communications from us
  • prevent illegal activities, suspected fraud and potential threats to our network
  • analyze the characteristics of our customers at an aggregated level and customer utilization of our services in order to understand customer and market needs, to improve our existing services, and to design new services and for business development
  • deliver customized content or advertising such as personalized offers for our services which we think may interest you (though this is rarely done.)
  • resolve customer issues, if needed

Your order's data will never be shared or sold.

Web Data and Media Ownership

All published blog data, blog comments, and testimonials are sole property of FilmFix (Laura and Nathaniel Courtens.) This includes new blog entries, media, and text. This data may be used as embedded content in other areas on the internet -- such as on our FilmFix Facebook posts.

Important Note: If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with your embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website, and that may become a privacy issue, for some people.

Testimonials and Blog-Comments

New content will be added, or not, at FilmFix's discretion. When visitors add comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent string to help determine if it's spam.

Your email address will never be publicly shared or sold or disclosed to a third party.

For Blog Comments: An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine if you are using Gravatar. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
